Deepening Our Roots
2024-2025 A Year of Grantmaking
Growing Together
As we reflect on the past year, our commitment to learning and growth has remained at the core of our work. We have deepened our understanding of the landscape, listened to our partners, and worked to elevate the voices of those shaping our local and regional food systems. We recognize that access to healthy food, strong local economies, and community well-being are deeply interconnected. This understanding is shaping our approach, driving our commitment to organizations advancing food equity, specifically those building long-term solutions that reduce reliance on emergency food systems and foster community-driven food sovereignty.
Through this work, we have seen firsthand the critical need for capacity building. Nonprofits are leading transformational efforts, yet many face barriers that limit their ability to scale and sustain their impact. Over the past year, we have focused on strengthening organizations from within by making sure they have the tools, resources, leadership, and infrastructure necessary to grow. By investing in their capacity, we hope nonprofits will be better equipped to navigate challenges, adapt to changing needs, and drive progress in their communities.
At the same time, we remain committed to meeting the evolving needs of our communities. We recognize that lasting change requires both a strategic focus and the ability to adapt when challenges emegge or environmental dynamics shift. In times of pressing need, we have stepped in to provide support where it was most needed, helping organizations remain responsive in the face of change. Throughout this work, we have seen that true progress is only possible through collaboration and strong partnerships - reinforcing our commitment to working alongside nonprofits, community leaders, and local organizations to create lasting change.
Supporting Community-Driven Food Solutions
A strong and resilient food system is driven by organizations dedicated to addressing challenges and creating solutions within their communities. Our role is to support these efforts by strengthening capacity, fostering collaboration, and by creating spaces where collaboration and shared learning can take place. We also recognize the power of raising awareness, not only about the food system itself but also about the organizations working tirelessly to transform it.
Building Nonprofit Strength Through iCAP
Our Impact Capacity Assessment Programs (iCAP) help nonprofits build the strength and structure needed to grow strategically. Whether developing priorities as established organizations or laying a strong foundation as emerging groups, iCAP connects nonprofits with organizational development consultants who provide tailored capacity building planning and support. By investing in organizations at pivotal moments in their development, we make sure they have the tools and strategies necessary to position themselves for long-term success.
Partnering for Impact
We recognize that meaningful change is only possible through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to collective action. While we remain dedicated to food systems as a focus area, we understand that addressing community needs requires collaboration, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt. By working alongside nonprofits, community leaders, and other funders, we align resources, share expertise, and respond to emerging challenges, ensuring that our support remains both strategic and where it’s needed the most.
